Is Azure Security Center for VM a worthy replacement for tools like Sophos?

The informational pages regarding Azure Security Center seem to show that it's pretty good at protecting VM's. Historically with on-premise, I've used tools such as Sophos Endpoint Protection to protect against intrusion/malware, etc.

Can anyone advise whether ASC is on a par/better than tools like this for protecting VM's, and most importantly, can it be relied upon solely to do this?

I'm not averse to using both, but wish to do so backed by good advice!

Thank you.

Hi, Azure Security Center gives you Azure Defender for Servers which will provide a license for Microsoft Defender for Endpoint for your VMs (as an alternative to Sophos here). In addition Azure Defender includes a lot more security features (not just for the VMs) on top of this which are outlined here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/security-center/defender-for-servers-introduction

I'm not familiar with the Sophos product so you would have to compare its features to the Azure Defender features in the link above and decide for yourself. Maybe use both like you said.
