Increase band width in ethernet network

Hello,
We have LAN local network for get plant industrial information from a lot of sensors. These information send to server with win server 2008 installed; by means of 1gb ethernet interface. Problem is these system is very slow due to heavy traffic when work with the corresponding interface.now the question is, what are the possible solutions?

Might consider upgrading the operating system and network hardware.

Simple optimization tips to increase bandwidth performance

Restart your router.
Prioritize Bandwidth.
Decrease the number of users.
Limit the number of devices.
Check for malware.
Close background applications.
