ASPState Database Creation Script and SQLServer 2019 - Image Data Type is Deprecated

Our DBA ran a SQL Server 2019 Upgrade analysis against our current SQL 2016 server, which contains our ASPState database. The results showed that Image data type is deprecated. Is there an updated version of InstallSQLState.sql that creates the ASPState db and does not use the image data type?

Hi @MorganTonymorganaj-3573 ,
Deprecated means that the functionality hasn't been removed, yet.Microsoft clearly indicated that ntext, text, and image data types will be removed from future SQL versions. However, the image data type (last I checked) was still available in SQL Server 2019.Also,I still suggest you change your datatype.

I understand what deprecated means, and we want to update to use varbinary instead, but the script that creates the database object for the ASPState database specifies using image data type. That is why my question was "Is there an updated version of InstallSQLState.sql that creates the ASPState db and does not use the image data type?". At least we can still use that, but we would rather update now than wait until it is removed from the schema in a future version.

Regards,
Anthony

Hi @MorganTonymorganaj-3573 ,
I think there are not any updated version of InstallSQLState.sql that create the ASPState db and do not use the image data type.

Isn't ASP just as old as the image data type? The image data type has been deprecated since SQL 2005, but I guess they had stopped developing ASP by then.
