Can a user set a "Never Delete" policy on their Inbox?

Hello Experts,
hope you are doing well.

Can a user set a "Never Delete" Policy on their main Inbox just like they can do it on individual mails/folders as per this documentation:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/retention-and-archive-policies-in-outlook-web-app-465372e4-e16b-47db-bee0-aba44799085e

The above is for the OWA outlook, but the Outlook App is similar. How can it be done in both?

Would that setting technically download all of the emails and retain them forever in Outlook App for example:

If the end user can not do it by default is there any admin configuration that needs to be done in order to achieve the goal?

There is no policy to do that. You would have to create it as an admin.

By default, those messages will just stay there forever unless you implement a policy of the user deletes them.

You mean can a user or admin prevent emails from being deleted in their mailbox? No that is not possible.

Even with a retention / in hold policy, items can be deleted, it just means they are saved and searchable even if "purged.

@AndyDavid The idea is that the end user should be able to search for an email even after 5 years, without the email getting deleted. Is that possible?

Nothing can prevent the user from deleting their own emails however.

If the user were to delete the message and purge it, then the only wat to search it would be Ediscovery by an admin - Assuming a hold of some time was on that mailbox, otherwise the item would be permanently purged from the mailbox after 30 days ( or less depending on what is set for your org)

Interesting, didn't know about the Ediscovery, could you share an official doc how to use it?

My question more along this line:
The user does not delete their own emails, they simply stay in the user's inbox.
Will there be some kind of an automatic archival/deletion after x amount of time, that will remove the emails from the users inbox?
If there is such a policy how can it be prevented?
