SharePoint 2016 : Drag and drop keeps document in Checked out state, despite no mandatory properties

If user drags and drops a file in the SharePoint 2016 library, the document remained in checked out state.

We have currently set Require documents to be checked out to Yes, as we do not want users to be co-authoring.

Read articles that said removal of mandatory field - Name would keep the document in Checked-in state. Made changes t the document content type at site collection level and set it to optional. Despite no mandatory fields, the file still gets checked out when drag and dropped. Please help, urgent.

This is by design that file would be in checked out state when uploading the file if you set Require documents to be checked out to Yes. There is no way to change it. You have to check in the file manually after uploading.

For disabling Name -mandatory column, this only works when Require documents to be checked out is set to No.

Since you have checked the "Require documents to be checked out "option, even if the Document Library does not set the mandatory fields, the file remains checked-out when drag and dropped it.

If you have required check-out set to yes, this would be expected behavior. Here is the information on disabling co-authoring.

Hi Trevor,

Thanks for the update. We do not want to change the setting at web application level.

Is there no way that the dragged and dropped documents can be made in default check-in state, with require checkout setting on? Articles say that disabling Name -mandatory column will change it to checked it. I tried thta, but not working.

Thanks for the update team! Guess we do not have much option then.
Will have to plan for the manual check-in workaround then.

Cheers
Aks

Was there a change recently, my users are now reporting this which was not an issue previously...? Is there an option to auto check in a doc when using drag/drop?
