Drive reassigned or ejected.

I have a Surface Pro (I think it is a 7 or 8). Additionally, I have a chip in the slot located on the back of the computer.

I have had a problem (I think since my Pro 2) with the chip being self ejected by the computer, and with the computer deciding to randomly change the drive letter assigned to the chip.

I have assigned the chip as the F drive and would like to keep it that way. I do not want the chip ejected, unless I personally eject it. As far as I can tell there is no relationship between ejecting the chip and reassigning the drive letter.

Can anyone tell me how to mitigate these issues?
