Search bug with Exchange 2019

Continuation of archived forum question search-bug-with-exchange-2019

This is now being pushed into CU8 (maybe).

I also received this info from an engineer.
"When testing this issue out, for some reason it only appears to affect “S” and the few other letters that I have tried doesn’t appears to have the same issue. Which is good that doesn’t affect many different scenarios.

It appears that just the “S” at the start of the search query follow by numbers has this issue occur.

When testing out the other letters or different combination of numbers it works. You should also be able to find the message without including the letter “S”."

Ugh, that is disappointing.
I plan on installing in a week or so.
I'll let you know my results then.

What is everyone else seeing?

I have the engineer's info (he is someone known within the Exchange community) and he promised to take back the case.

Thanks for picking up this thread on the new platform. It was starting to look like the old one was getting some traction when they archived it and jumped platforms.

Did anyone get Dani Zontag1's Case number from the original Forum (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/60aab333-0a33-4568-b2e7-a3ab0cedfc1d/search-bug-with-exchange-2019?forum=Exch2019)? I would love to add a Premier case to my own Pro Support case.

I have now opened a second Pro Support case on this. The first ticket I opened was open for 13 months (6/2019 - 7/2020)and was closed with the only guidance to "open a premier ticket." I got a refund for the Support case, but not the $7K I paid for the license to run 2019 without an operational search function. >;-S

So, it seems Microsoft only fixed searches with and "S" in the term in CU9. What specific search terms are not working for you all?

Hi

If it is a bug in Exchange 2019, please log it with Microsoft.

Do you have any policy or restriction that not allowing you to use Exchange cached mode? You can use Exchange cached mode as a workround.
Then just wait for Microsoft updates, it seeems CU5 has fixed some search issues, there should be some engineer working on it.

W*F, please learn VDI enterprise envroiments.
I hope for these envoirments they don't use all there expensive fast FULL flash storage to store there mailbox and shared mailbox.
and that for 1000 + users...

cached mode is not an option. we postponed all our migrations to exchange 2019 because of this bug...

Hello guys.... I was one of the original posters of this bug... Glad I found this continuation and commenting just so I can find it again

Have just updated to CU7 and the bug remains...

Glad it is being looked at for CU8

Weird it is only a problem for the letter "S"

MS also confirmed we are experiencing this bug on our side.
It's not only related to the character S.
We see most of the times gaps in the search results.

Adding a relative search query e.g. 'received: this year' circumvents Fast search and is a crappy workaround.
Unbelievable it's still not fixed.

Here is the latest follow up.

"I am still working with the product group on this issue. I am working updating some internal content and sync with PG on this here either today or tomorrow. I will still continue to dig into this issue, however, I have found that Q and L also have the same outcome as S. Hopefully we can determine a way to fix the issue, however, right now it looks like it caused by our word breaker code that causes the new big funnel feature to not work as intended. If it turns out to be in the word breaker, it is going to be harder to provide a fix for this."

Thanks for the update! Very interesting....

It might be hard but it is necessary to fix...!

If we can put a main on the moon surely we can do a simple text search on our emails.... all hands on deck I say! Employ whoever you need!!!

I agree. I think whomever is experiencing the problem should put a premiere support ticket in.

I assume there is a way for all the tickets to be linked to a global ticket.

"I just wanted to provide an update that I have synced with PG and provided what I think is a possible code fix. However, they are still going to need to review and investigate it as we don’t want to have a regression within the search functionality. This process can take some time now for them to review and determine how to proceed next. I will let you know if there are any changes."

"I just wanted to provide an update to you regarding this issue. It looks like we have a fix and is expected to be in Exchange 2019 CU9 release that is coming in March."

"Since it is early, I would say that it is close to locked in. But there is a chance that it could be pulled for some other issue that is found later down the road in BETA testing. I am in the process of testing out the changes myself to make sure that it is fixed as how we would expect it to be fixed."

Would you be able to message me your ticket # so that we can reference it? And anyone else that has one... their support does not appear to be aware of whatever anyone else in the company is doing so it would be nice for them to get on the same page with their answers. Every week its like we start from ground zero with troubleshooting "well move the user to another database" "well lets run a repair".. no...no...no... fricken groundhog day..
