Question on a couple of object types in MABS backups

Hi folks,

I've been setting up a MABS server to back up our on-prem servers and VM's to local disk and Azure. In selecting what assets to protect on our Hyper-V machines, I've noticed a couple of types that I'm unsure whether it's necessary to backup or not. The Hyper-Cluster resources have a 'Cluster group' associated with it:

Stand alone Hyper-V servers likewise have a 'Host component':

What are these objects and is it necessary to back them up if the constituent servers already have BMR backups configured and all Hyper-V guests are also selected? Thanks for any info!

Hi Sadiq, thanks for the repsonse. Unfortunately, it doesn't answer the question though. I know I can backup individual VM's on either standalone or clustered Hyper-V servers by selecting the VM itself. My question relates to what these two items I've mentioned above actually are and whether I should be selecting them for backup or not.

Not sure about those two items. You may want to contact Azure support team to confirm the same.

Hello @IC-2516 Thank you for your post and I apologize for the delayed response!

If you have Hyper-V hosts in cluster, then it will show cluster group and you can select the VM you want to backup.

If it is a standalone Hyper-V host, then it will show only host and you can protect VM.

View will be different for cluster v/s standalones.
