Ahhh. I fixed it. I followed ThioJoe's process of updating Windows 10 WITHOUT losing any apps or data. It worked like a charm. It updated me from 21H1 to 21H2 also.

Have you tried to install it directly
(one from KB5008212, depending on your OS)

    Hello @John Berthoty

I would first suggest you try getting the updates manually and see you can install them.
You can get the updates by KB (KB5008212 ) number from the below link
    https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Home.aspx

You can also temporarily disable all your antivirus and try installing the updates.

If this manual update fails you can then try using the SFC & DISM command to check for any corrupted registries and try the update installation after the restart.

Here is the link for the scan commands
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system-files-79aa86cb-ca52-166a-92a3-966e85d4094e

If the scan yield no result then try the Inplace update which will surely sort this issue out.

    John,

I would add that you have to install Windows 10 version 21H2 in order to solve your problem. You mentioned that you happened to install 21H2 during the process that solved your problem, but this actually is what solved your problem.
