I have one or more Microsoft accounts that need to be moved/converted to AD domain accounts. Is there a way to accomplish this, so that impacted users can login to their new domain accounts and pick up from where they left off (as if nothing happened)? The option used to be available in previous Windows versions, from what I've seen online. However, I can't tell how to perform this task in the latest version of Windows. If you have any questions, please ask. I'll provide any information I can if it helps.
Once users have joined domain you can go Settings\Accounts\Email\Add A Microsoft Account

I've applied the setting you suggested. Should I logout and back in to see the effects? Will this sync desktop backgrounds and other profile data, or only allow for Windows apps to login?
No, nothing like that, this will simply link a microsoft account to the profile. This is somewhat of a hack but
Logon to the new domain once then logon to the pc with another account that has local administrative rights, navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
find the new profile, and point the Reg_Expand_Sz string named ProfileImagePath to the old domain profile.
A better option may be to use ADMT tool for your migration.
