Intune - Android Enterprise - Information

Hey Everyone,

I have a customer who want's more information about managing an Android device via Intune. The customer would like to deploy Intune is his environment for Android devices (Phones, mix of Samsung and Motorola).

The requirements are:

  • The user can't almost change anything on the device

  • Three app's need to be pushed to the device and the user can't delete those app's

  • The user can't change the volume on the device

I had a look into several doc's on the internet and I think I need Android Enterprise for this in combination with Intune.

So my questions are:

  • Is my idea correct that I need Android Enterprise in combination of this ?

  • I think Android Enterprise isn't a free tool, so I need to sell this in combination with Intune ?

  • What do I exactly need for this ?

  • Do I really need Intune then ?

I hope you can help me out and make it a little bit more clear for me.

Regards

Steven

Android Enterprise (AE) isn't a tool; it is the management layer for Android provided by Google. Most Android devices include this management layer but not all do so you need to check with the manufacturer of the device to validate. See https://www.android.com/enterprise/devices/. AE by itself doesn't do anything, it just provided the mechanisms and APIs that an EMM can leverage to manage the device.

Intune in general can manage any device with the AE layer included as well as some additional Android-based devices that use Android Open Source Project version of Android.

Thanx for the answer Jason.

If I understand it well, it doesn't have any cost. The device needs to be in the list of the enterprise devices and I'm good to go then.

Else it doesn't have the mechanisms and I can't to what the customer wants because I see that the questions of the customer requires that the device is ready for Android Enterprise.

Regards,

Steven

@StevenVB-5403 I just add some information. For Android Enteprise devices, generally, we usually the following four methods to enroll to intune:
Android Enterprise personally-owned with a work profile
Android Enterprise dedicated
Android Enterprise fully managed
Android Enterprise corporate-owned with a work profile
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/enrollment/android-enroll

For users can't almost change anything on the device, it is suggested to deploy a restriction policy to allow or disable features. For users can't change the volume on the device, it seems that block Microphone adjustment or block Volume changes will meet your requirement. For more details, please refer to the following article:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/configuration/device-restrictions-android-for-work#before-you-begin

To use intune to manage devices, it is needed to have intune license. Intune license is included in the following license. Purchase one of the following licenses has some costs.
Microsoft 365 E5
Microsoft 365 E3
Enterprise Mobility + Security E5
Enterprise Mobility + Security E3
Microsoft 365 Business Premium
Microsoft 365 F1
Microsoft 365 F3
Microsoft 365 Government G5
Microsoft 365 Government G3
Intune for Education
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/fundamentals/licenses#microsoft-intune

Hope it will clear some of your confusion.
