Coexistence between Exchange 2013 and 2019

We have established Coexistence between Exchange 2013 and 2019 in our environment for enabling archive mailbox of exchange 2013 mailboxes into Exchange 2019 servers. We could not configure CAS for Exchange 2019 servers.

Queries:

  1. Can we enable the archive mailbox of Exchange 2013 mailbox users into Exchange 2019 servers DB?

  2. Client Access is configured only for Exchange 2013 servers, not intended to configure CAS in Exchange 2019. Is it possible?

  3. Can exchange proxy requests forward from 2013 to 2019 if we have not configured CAS into Exchange 2019.

How should this work?

@Hello @NurHossain-8047,

:-)

Thanks for your reply.

Goal: We want to enable archive mailbox(User primary mailbox exist in Exchange 2013) into the database which will be hosted in Exchange 2019 servers. We could not establish our Exchange 2019 servers for client access service.

You could enable it from EAC or PowerShell:

 Enable-Mailbox -Identity testuser13 -Archive -ArchiveDatabase db19

Can exchange proxy requests forward from 2013 to 2019 if we have not configured CAS into Exchange 2019.

In a coexist environment, you just need to publish one Exchange to the Internet. Client access request could proxy from this Internet facing server to other server.

If there exists Exchange 2010 coexists Exchange 2013 and later, you need to use Exchange 2013 or later version as the Internet facing server. Because request cannot proxy from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013.

If there only exist Exchange 2013 and later version, you could choose any of them as the Internet facing server.
