No notification when someone calls

Hi,

When someone calls you, you should see a small window or notification at the bottom of your screen where you can choose to answer the call or decline.
I don't get that window so I'm left having to guess who is calling me and when the ringer ends, I have to see which call I missed and call back.
What could be the cause of this?

I am running Teams on Kubuntu 20.04.

Thanks in advance,

Best regards,
Arno

Hi @ArnoIgne-8239,

Are you referring to the calling notification appeared at the lower right corner?

Is this a recently occurred issue or it has been existent since Teams was installed on the machine?

Based on your description, I tried checking on my Ubuntu 20.04 with Microsoft Teams Insider version 1.4.00.26453(64-bit) and can get the calling notification properly.

For your situation, please try clearing the Teams client cache by running the command below:

 rm -rf ~/.config/Microsoft/Microsoft\ Teams

(Or " rm -r ~/.config/Microsoft/Microsoft\ Teams\ -\ Insiders" if you are also running the Insider version.)

Besides, it's suggested to try login in to the Teams web client, make sure to click "Turn on" when prompted to turn on the desktop notification:

Dear YukiSun,

That is indeed the notification I'm referring to. I've had it for quite a while now. I had the same issue on Kubuntu 18 as well. It worked at first, right after a clean install of Kubuntu 20 but I believe due to changes in installed packages or maybe through updates, it stopped working.
I'm running Teams version 1.4.00.26453 (64-bit).

I have tried completely reinstalling Teams however that did not help.

I asked a colleague to call me and I have attached the relevant part of the logs if that is of any help. 168274-teams-log.txt

Kind regards,
Arno

Hi @ArnoIgne-8239,

I tried comparing your log file with logs caught on my client and did noticed some difference related to desktop notification, see the image below(the left half was captured from your logs):

Then I tried searching further regarding the errors like "notificationActionCancelled as profileType is not present." and "desktop_notification_cancel", but failed to go deeper.

Just wondering are you able to receive desktop notifications from other apps? And how about the Teams web client mentioned earlier.

So I first wanted to try this by running teams.microsoft.com from firefox but there calling is not supported. I then tried in Chromium where it supported and had a colleague call me. The notification showed and I was able to answer the call from the notification so it works fine there.

I assume MS Teams is built on Chromium so it is strange that it works in Chromium but not the Teams app. The notification settings are the same as far as I can tell and because I do get notifications when people post messages so I assume it is not a permissions issue.

Hi YukiSun,

I'm able to get notifications from other applications, e.g. Signal, Teams (when someone posts a message for example), Firefox (e.g. from outlook.office.com/mail/).
The issue is only with calls from Teams.

I have not been able to test Teams in the browser yet. I'll post another message when I've been able to try it.

Kind regards,
Arno

Hi @ArnoIgne-8239,

Thanks for sharing your test results and agree with you that it's weird that it can work in brwoser but not work in client.

Yes, calling is currenly not supported in Firefox. For more details about supported browsers for Teams on the web, see Web clients for Microsoft Teams.

Furthermore, I found the following article which mentions that it could be related to that the "Graphics Driver on the local machine is out of date and requires updating". You may have a check on your end and see if it can help:
Microsoft Teams Call Notification Not Showing On Desktop

I've tried switching to different graphics drivers: nvidia-driver-470, nvidia-driver-460 and nvidia-driver-490.
None of these resolved the issue.
