office 365 apps in shared activation and having sign-in issues

we have deployed office 365 apps using shared activation mode .
we have different logins.
one for the server (active directory)
one for office 365 (cloud)
I can activate without issue using the cloud credentials... we have the proper licensing assigned (365 business premium) however the apps keep asking us to re-enter credentials. every time we log out and log in to the server.

Here is the error:

Any idea whats going on and how to resolve this nuisance?

Hi @JasonGodfrey-5248,
I suggest you refer to this article about the similar problem as yours:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office365/troubleshoot/sign-in/office-365-users-not-signed-in-office

You can follow this article and try to test after deleting the SignedOutADUser registry key if this problem will be resolved.

Please Note: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, please remember to back up the registry for restoration in case problems occur.
Here is an article about how to back up and restore the registry in Windows: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/322756

  1. Open Registry Editor.

  2. Locate, and then click the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity

  3. Right-click the SignedOutADUser registry key, and then click Delete.

  4. When you're prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

Just checking in to see if the information was helpful. Please let us know if you would like further assistance, I'm glad to help you.

Hello I just want to be clear that the users are not activating office apps using Active directory accounts.
This environment does not use any Dirsync.
They sing into the domain joined server with their AD account.
They activate the office 365 apps using the cloud only account .
