Server 2019/2016 not available in the marketplace

Hi, is anyone else having issues with being able to choose either Server 2019 or 2016 as a VM from the marketplace? If done via the 'create' VM pane it just says the image isnt available. And when I try and find them in the marketplace they aren't there.

Currently there are no Windows Server 2019 or 2016 Standard image available in Azure.

We recommend that you use Windows Server 2019 or 2016 Datacenter because the Datacenter edition contains all features of the Standard edition and have some additional enhancement features available.

Regarding the differences between these two editions, please refer to this document https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/get-started-19/editions-comparison-19 for further information.

If you wish to use the Standard versions, you will need to upload a custom VHD, prepared using this guide: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/windows/prepare-for-upload-vhd-image, and deploy from that VHD.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi,

What if I going to optimise costs buing 1-year VM Reservation and 1-year Windows Server Subscription? There is no subscription for Datacenter edition. I can't downgrade VM from Datacenter to Standard. Do I have to create new VM from Standard edition image and move whole stuff from existing VM? Is there any simpler way?

Hi Karshma,
We have a customized software which supports only on Standard version of any Windows server. Please let me know how we can take this ahead.
We tried many ways by creating custom images but we are facing lot of challenges post creating VM in standard version.
Let me know if any way we can make this standard version available in marketplace for Windows Server 2016 & 2019.
