Installation of Visual Studio Community causes boot drive to disappear from bios

Has anyone else recently installed visual studio community and had their boot drive disappear?

First I was installing VS on my laptop PC. I wasn't watching the installation, but when I came back it was on an error page saying no boot device found. I restarted it and it started up but after I closed the lid, it didn't automatically turn on and I had to reset it and had the same problem with it not finding the hard drive. I looked at the hard drive and thought I had a loose SATA cable, so I fixed that and bios was able to find the hard drive again and it booted up. Because the laptop is older, I thought maybe the hard drive or the controller was going bad (even though the hard drive is newer because I replaced the original with an SSD). I still kept having problems with the laptop crashing because the hard drive could not be found.

Thinking my laptop is on it last legs, today I was installing VS on my desktop PC. Again I was not watching the installation because they are pretty lengthy. When I went back to it it was on the bios setup screen. My boot drive (which is a 256 GB SSD) said it had 0MB in the bios. I tried rebooting, but it still could not read the boot drive. When it went back to the bios the drive was gone. I unplugged the SATA and power cables from the drive, plugged them back in and rebooted. Again it booted to the bios, but this time my hard drive was there and it showed that it had 256GB, but it still would not boot up windows.

Clearly this problem is related to installation of VS community. As of right now I am deleting VS community off my laptop. My desktop will still not boot up; I am going to try to fix Windows with a USB key.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Honestly, this is the most severe issue I have ever experienced with the installation of a piece of software, if it hadn't happened to me twice I wouldn't think it could be possible.
