Cannot log into visual studio community 2019

Hello, I am trying to figure out how to log into visual studio community, I've attempted a login at "report a problem" on the installer and
it returned this on login. Visual studio also has a similar error since I haven't used it in the past 30 days. I've also attempted to reinstall it to no avail. From what I understand, this is a recurring issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Discovered one method to resolve this problem, there was a bug in authentication via embedded browser. To fix this, it requires you to go to options>accounts, and then change the authentication method to "system web browser". Log in from there. This can't be done if the trial period has expired so you would have to find an article detailing how to reset the trial via registry.

Really glad to hear that you have found one method to resolve this problem.

Actually, “system web browser” option from Tools > Options > Environment > Accounts > Sign-in options is related to a new feature which is included since Visual Studio 16.6 release. This new capability in Visual Studio 2019 16.6 streamlines how users can access resources secured via CA policies such as MFA. The introduction of this capability is described here: How is the Visual Studio experience affected by MFA policies.

From the error log, it seems there is something wrong with the default browser(Internet Explorer). I also suggest you try to follow steps below to reset Internet Explorer(IE) settings and clean IE cache.


To reset Internet Explorer settings:

  1. Close Visual Studio 2019 > start IE browser > click on the gear icon in the upper right corner > Internet options > select the Advanced tab.

  2. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, select Reset > in the box, Are you sure you want to reset all Internet Explorer settings?, select Reset.

  3. When IE finishes applying default settings, select Close, and then select OK > restart your PC to apply changes.


To clean IE cache:

  1. Close all IE windows > start IE and click Tools > Internet Options > select the General tab.

  2. Under the Browsing history section click Delete > select “Temporary Internet files and website files” and “Cookies and website data” options > click Delete.

Besides, you can also close all Visual Studio instances and go to C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\.IdentityService then rename(or delete) the .IdentityService folder, after that you can restart Visual Studio 2019 and try to log in again.

I changed the authentication method to "system web browser" using options>accounts. When I signed in, I no longer got the 'We can't sign you in...Your browser is currently set to block cookies. You need to allow cookies to use this service.' message. Thanks TianyuSun-MSFT and JonathanGoon-9500 for providing the solution.

For me I can't find the login or sign in button. I installed the app three different times and it won't show up. I tryed logging in thru the microsoft page and still didn't work
