On my page I access Settings - Change the Look - Header - Background and insert my banner. Then I chose "Remove" for the logo portions. However when I save the logo box (blue) remains. Is there a way to remove that blue box altogether?

You mean you click Remove under the site logo, save it, however the site logo is still there, right?
Normally, Site logo thumbnail that will appear in search, on the site card, and wherever else a square logo is needed, and Site Logo that will appear in the site header, if we remove the site logo and don't upload a new one, it will have the same image as the site logo thumbnail.
This way, we can't actually remove the site logo, we can only upload a different image for the site logo.
