Hello. I am considering using IoT Hub with Azure Stack Hub. Although IoT Hub is available in preview in Azure Stack Hub, Defender for IoT is not yet supported. We would like to use the Agent-based Defender for IoT, but is there any way to use it without Defender for IoT on the Azure Stack Hub side (cloud side)? I think that it can be realized if there is an API that runs the Defender Agent (flows commands?). Is there any way to do this? Thanks in advance.

Helllo @HinataGrape-6694 , The agent-based Azure Defender for IoT solution is a combination of an agent running on your (edge) device and the required configuration of the IoT Hub. On the IoT Hub, you need to have activated Defender for IoT and you need to need to register a specific module identity inside an Azure IoT Device. This even works for Azure IoT Edge devices . If you are able to get the agent running and have a cloud IoT Hub, that device / VM is monitored by the combination of the agent and the IoT Hub in the cloud.

as seen here, Azure IoT Hub on Azure Stack Hub preview will be retired and it will not go to GA per September 30, 2022.

Thank you for your valuable information.

In fact, we were considering using the IoT Hub in places where there is no internet access, such as on board a ship.

In the article you introduced, it says to migrate to "Azure IoT Edge gateway", but is this one where I can use IoT Hub even without a network environment?

Do I have to give up using the IoT Hub in places where there is no internet access?

It seems the only option to run Azure IoT Hub is in the cloud.

Azure IoT Edge is a valid solution regarding connecting multiple child devices or even nest child edge devices.

The 'primary' Azure IoT Edge device has to connect to an Azure IoT only one time to get it going (including the child devices). Azure IoT Edge is designed for even 'air-gapped' solutions. Still, it works (eg. changing configuration) in combination with an IoT Hub when it is able to connect.

Please contact your Microsoft contacts regarding the feature set of Azure Stack Hub (and perhaps a combination with Azure Stack Edge).

I learned that it is not possible to use IoT Hub in a standalone environment.
