I am using ADF Power query to connect Azure sql db and fetch data.
Dataset defined for power query is built on linked service which connects the azure sql db via ADF's managed identity.
ADF Power query says invalid or missing credentials
The underlying linked service is also used for copy activity. It connects and fetches the data fine when executed.

As per my understanding you are re-using an old Azure SQL dataset (which works fine in Copy activity) in Power query activity of ADF and you are experiencing above error. Please correct if I'm wrong.
Could you please try creating a new dataset for Azure SQL and see if you notice the same behavior? Also, please double check with other authentication types (SQL auth or Service Principal) and let us know if you still notice the same behavior with Power query activity?

I created new linked service once with ADF managed id and next with service principal.
In both the cases, I am getting credential error when trying to use in ADF power query datasets.
when I do test connection on the linked service, they show connection fine.
In this case I need to connect via managed id or service principal.
sql auth can't be used.
Please suggest.

Thanks for response, we are trying to reproduce the problem and will escalate to respective product owners if we notice this as an issue on the product side.
