Device Provisionning Service and Gateway

I have a question, if I buy an Edge Gateway device how can I use the DPS to provision the downstream devices.
This is important as this is usually the most common scenario.
And in case you can't, there is a way to automate this process.

Thank you and best regards!

Hello @rcamposmartin ,
Automatic provisioning downstream devices with the Azure IoT Hub Device Provisioning Service (DPS) is not supported.

If you configure an IoT Edge device to act as a transparent gateway , downstream devices can authenticate with IoT Hub using one of three methods: symmetric keys (sometimes referred to as shared access keys), X.509 self-signed certificates, or X.509 certificate authority (CA) signed certificates. You can learn how to Authenticate a downstream device to Azure IoT Hub here.

You can nevertheless automatically provision IoT Edge devices with the Azure IoT Hub device provisioning service, see here how-to.

To your notice as well: IoT Central relies on the Device Provisioning Service (DPS) to provision devices in IoT Central. Currently, IoT Edge can't use DPS to provision a downstream device to your IoT Central application. See here how to provision a downstream device manually in IoT Central - it gives you a good understanding how it is done today.

Let me know if this helps you get started?

Thanks!
