vpn issue with most recent W11 upgrade

After the most recent Windows 11 upgrade, when I connect my vpn, Windows shows no internet connection, but there is an internet connection. I am able to browse and get email and do Windows update, but some other apps don't work, such as Spotify and Trickster which show an error that there is no internet connection. I have checked all drivers and updated to the latest version of my vpn software. I completely removed the vpn app and reinstalled with no change. Prior to the most recent update all worked well. It seems for whatever reason Windows is just not acknowledging that there is an internet connection when there actually is.

Let say you connect to the VPN, does it show you are not connecting to internet or some programs are able to connect to internet?
Have you installed all updates for the Windows?

When I connect the vpn app, the task bar icon changes to the globe and hovering over it reads network - no internet access. The vpn application shows connected. I can use the browser and email and Windows update but when I try to launch Spotify or Trickster I get an error "no internet". I have run all Windows updates.

To clarify, the task bar network icon changes from the square shaped icon that hovering over it reads Network - Internet Access, to the globe icon.

When it shows the disconnect icons, then your applications from the Microsoft Store won't work. In this case all applications should work unless if they are not UWP or the app from the Microsoft Store.
To solve this issue try update the VPN and your network adaptor.
You may open start and search for feedback and open the Feedback Hub app and report this issue.

Hi @SteveMicrosoftAccount-3082

Connection issues, with or without VPN, are rather common after every new major update. Major updates tend to make certain changes to your adapter settings, making them unusable in the process.

As you have stated that the recent update has caused this issue this might be a driver conflict with windows. You can try uninstalling the update and see if that sorts the issue.

Another possible reason for this error can lie in the third-party antivirus or some of its subsidiaries. If you have installed any apps lately try uninstalling them.

You can also try Disabling IPv6 and see if that sorts the issue.
-Open Network and Internet and then Network and Sharing Center
-Select Change adapter settings from the left pane.
-Right-click on the VPN network adapter and open Properties.
-Uncheck the box beside IPv6 and confirm changes

Hope this resolves your Query!!
