New to subscription edition | Migrating from SP 2019

Hello community:

Is SharePoint subscription edition the next on-prem version? I have a need to consolidate 3 SP 2019 farms for a customer which is poorly configured, and I'd like to rebuild a new farm. Does it make sense to use the SharePoint subscription edition? Also, is the installation/configuration very similar to the SP 2019 farm? All the roles will be scaled (i.e., WFE, Search, App, etc., minimum 2 of each). Also, I will be using a tool like ShareGate or AvePoint Fly to do the migration from SP 2019 to the subscription edition.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, it is the next (and last -- like Windows 10 ;)) "version" of SharePoint Server. It will be updated with new features (similar to the SharePoint Server 2016 Feature Packs) via regular updates.

The installation and configuration is identical to SharePoint Server 2019 (there are some exceptions such as no need to use the SharePoint Management Shell explicitly as the cmdlets are now a standard Windows PowerShell module and Distributed Cache cmdlets are now prefixed with "SP" as AppFabric became part of the SharePoint product rather than stand alone). The only thing you need to review are the removal/deprecation of features.

Trevor, thank you. The scripts in your SP 2019 book for farm configuration will work for subscription edition?
