I want to control the cache mode of Outlook on a machine-by-machine basis

I am using Outlook in the Azure Virtual Desktop environment.
Outlook is the default setting with cache mode enabled.
Cache mode downloads pst files locally, so
I am concerned about the enlargement of the profile area, so only in the AVD environment
I would like to disable the cache mode.
Looking at Office's ADMX, there is only a corresponding setting in the per-user policy.
Since AVD is used in combination with FAT PC, if it is set for each user, the policy will be applied when logging in to FAT PC.
Is there a way to control the cache mode on a machine-by-machine (PC-by-PC) basis? Does anyone have any good ideas?

Thank you.

Hi,

If you want to use GPO to change the configuration, that's the expeted behavior and we cannot change it. Or we may consider changing the setting manually. From outlook side, I'm afraid there is no better choice to meet this need.

You may need to check if any other idea can meet this need from AVD side, thanks for your understanding!

Issue summary:

Is there a way to control the cache mode of Outlook on a machine-by-machine (PC-by-PC) basis in AVD?

Recommended solution:

Performance wise you're better off leaving cached mode (OST) enabled on the Outlook clients within AVD, especially if using FSLogix. This can be offset by configuring Loopback processing of Group Policy to apply user policies to a machine.

You could reduce the size of the OST by enabling the sync settings to only sync emails in a short period (i.e. 1 day to 12 months or all), as described here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/troubleshoot/installation/cached-exchange-mode#cached-exchange-mode-settings

Hi @rkppt-4902

Your idea of disabling the cache mode is not so good as it is always recommended to use Cached Exchange Mode with an Office 365 account. Cached Exchange Mode is the preferred configuration in Outlook and is useful in the following situations:

-Users who frequently move in and out of connectivity.
-Users who frequently work offline or without connectivity.
-Users who have high-latency connections (greater than 500 ms) to Exchange Server.

Is there a way to control the cache mode on a machine-by-machine (PC-by-PC) basis? Does anyone have any good ideas?

Yes, this can be done and you can refer to the below article for more insights into this process.

Planning considerations for Cached Exchange Mode for Outlook https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/troubleshoot/installation/cached-exchange-mode

Hope this resolves your Query!!
