i bought a key for microsoft windows 10 and when tried to activate it made an error, so when i called customer support they told me it is for windows 8.1 retail and i may have to install windows 8.1 first then upgrade it to windows 10 and it may work
so i am asking if you please do this step for me, cause my laptop is not reading the windows 8.1 installation cause it is gen 11h

You could try the following method.
Open the command prompt window as administrator.
Then type the following commands.
slmgr -upk (Uninstall previous product key)
slmgr -cpky (Clear product key registry)
slmgr -ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX (Replace XXXX with your product key / Install new product key)
slmgr -ato
i got
Error: 0xC004E016 On a computer running Microsoft Windows non-core edition, run 'slui.exe 0x2a 0xC004E016' to display the error text
and when i opened 'slui.exe'
it gave me the same old error that can't be activated cause it is a retail version and i am asking if the support can upgrade my license

If Microsoft customer support have recommended that you need to install 8.1 first, you will need to do that in order to use your license key.
You may have trouble installing 8.1 onto your device. If you can’t, then you will need to purchase a windows 10 specific license key.
