Remote Desktop stuck at Loading Virtual Machine

Hello,

We have a Terminal Services environment with following configuration

Server A - RD Gateway + Connection Broker
Server 1 to 20 - RD Session Host

We have 7 collections and session hosts servers are assigned to different collections based on application version we require.
All servers are running Windows Server 2016 Standard. We have wildcard certificates installed on Server A for all services.

Our environment does not uses virtual machine based deployment. Never had any. It has been working fine but lately lot of users get stuck at LOADING VIRTUAL MACHINE.

When we check in the event log in the gateway - there is an event 801 like following

RD Connection Broker successfully processed the connection request for user XX. Redirection info:
Target Name = XX
Target IP Address = 192.168.110.72
Target Netbios = XX
Target FQDN = XX
Disconnected Session Found = 0x0

After around 1 min there is an event 819 like following:

This connection request has timed out. User could not log on to the end point within the alloted time. Remote Desktop Connection Broker will stop monitoring this connection request.

There is absolutely no event on the session host server.
We have tried almost everything but could not find a solution.

Some urgent advise will be helpful.
Thanks,
RJ

Having same issue. This might be the reason I leave insider. Beta version should be relatively stable. Anyone come up with anything to clean this up? Other fixed don't work.

Was having same issue and was able to fix by editing the registry using below steps . Hopefully this helps others

Open Registry editor
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Terminal Server Client.
Navigate to the right-hand pane, right-click, and choose New > DWORD (32-bit value).
Name this option as “RDGClientTransport.”
Double-click this newly-created file. Its properties will open, and here, look for an option to set the value data. Enter the value 1. Click OK and close the Windows registry

This worked for me. Thank you a ton. This has been an issue for months and required me to switch to other PC every time I needed to connect in this way.

I was having the same problem with our Remote Desktop System with the company, my connection was stuck at the "Virtual Maschine Loading" phase.

Our IT and I tried everything to resolve this matter. (Even tried the Registry Editing Method from this forum-which didn't work for me unfortunately.)

The problem is resolved after resetting/formatting my entire computer and Re-Loading the entire Windows 11 from the Microsoft. And after that I downloaded all my files from the Cloud and everything is working now.

After the entire resetting and downloading, my current Remote Dektop connecting Windows 11 Version is

Version 21H2 (OS Build 22000.675)

This was a 3 days of nightmare for me but it is over now. I hope this solution helps someone.

Best Wishes

I had the same problem as your around 48 hours ago. Turns out it was the recent Windows 11 Insider Edition Beta Channel update on the client side, not a server issue.

I restored Windows on the client to the previous version and it would connect.

Same problem here and this is a big headache of a problem. Currently at Windows 11 Insider Preview 22593.1 (ni_release) and still occurring at Windows 11 Insider Preview 22598.1 (ni_release)

There really is no alternative software to use in this scenario as mstsc is built in and has no competitor on Windows.

I would like to stay trying Windows 11 but this is a show stopper for my workplace.

Yes, that seems to be right. The problem is there with Windows 11 clients only which has this specific preview version. I can't find how to revert back - have done 2 more updates after this.

Client PC is on 22598.ni_release.220408-1503

Would MS be able to fix this and release a new patch sometime soon?

Is there a solution for this yet? I'm having the same issue, I can't make the RDP connection for work, stuck on the same "Loading the virtual machine.." Also windows 11 insider build, I tried rolling back but still not working.

I had two big windows 11 insider updates in a row, so I can only roll one back, and both these latest updates have the same issue.

In my case I just couldn't wait. I tried a number of work arounds and couldn't find an answer.
Rolling back didn't work as I was too far in to the Win 11 builds.
I wiped and reinstalled Windows 10.

I had this same issue, and it was initially resolved by today's update. Regrettably the same issue returned so I may have to completely reinstall Windows 11.
