Edge IE Mode Api and Protected mode

Good morning,

Because of my work need use some chinese govrerment department web. After Ms try use edge to instead of IE in Window 11. My colleague meet one problem. Because i don't meet this problem. I want to help her about this. But i can't soluton. She use Edge IE mode to visit tax department web in her laptop. But in the company tax web two URL button can't to click. I use my laptop try visit this web in Edge IE mode. Unlike her, I can click on those two URL buttons and access them. I don't understand why this is happening, same version of OS, same version of Edge.

So I tried to figure out how we were different place. I find some different places :

1.Use Edge IE mode visit same web page, my laptop show IE11 , her latop show IE 5/7

My laptop show protected mode is on. Her laptop is off.

In my laptop's Edge show Internet Explorer Mode API Version 17. Her Api version is 13.

In Window system Set Optional features page, my IE mode size is 3.28MB. Her size is 1.63MB

All in all, the situation is shown in the diagram. I'd really appreciate it if you could help me.

Hi @86582769

The cause of the website issue is the website loading in IE7 compatibility mode. We need to find out why the Edge IE mode is using IE7 compatibility mode.

Do you know how the IE mode is configured on her computer, by group policy or something else?
Could you please provide the screenshots of edge://compat/enterprise page and edge://settings/defaultBrowser page of her Edge browser? You can remove the privacy information when you provide the screenshots.

Hi @86582769

It seems that you neither configure IE mode group policy nor use IE mode local site list experience. I think you're using IE mode by clicking . Correct me if there's anything wrong.

In this situation, the different results in IE mode may be related with the Internet Explorer mode API version. I suggest that you can check if there's any Windows updates and install the latest Windows updates, then reinstall IE mode feature in Windows Optional features to see if it can fix the issue.

If it still can't fix the issue, I suggest that you can refer to this doc to configure IE mode using group policies and put the tax website in Enterprise Mode Site List. The steps are like below:

For how to create the Enterprise Mode Site List, you can refer to this doc. You need to load the tax website in IE11 Compatibility mode in Edge IE mode, the sample sites list file is like below:

Yes, I was click IE mode button to use IE. In our laptop, we aren't use IE mode group policy and IE mode local site list experience. Your solution is very good. Yesterday, I was use this solution to solve this problem.But this solution can't solve this problem. I was find this question's solution. I think this question isn't have relation with IE mode group policy and IE mode local site list experience. I can sure this.
Because my laptop isn't use IE mode group policy and IE mode local site list experience. On the other hand, Edge is update IE mode API from 13 to 17. The problem remains unresolved.
The reason for this problem is Windows Optional Features. This IE mode size isn't right. It is only have 1.64MB. When I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, it was the same size, nothing had changed.
So I decided to help her reinstall Windows on her laptop, which was a painful decision. Because there are so many data files on the laptop that need to be transferred.
But this decision turned out to be good, after reinstalling Windows. The size of IE mode is right. It size is 3.2MB, not 1.64MB. I don't set IE mode group policy and IE mode local site list experience.
We visit tax website. All things are right. She can click that two button. The form after the button displays normally without formatting errors. The IE moede is run in IE11, isn't IE 5/7.
Tip: In Edge mode, the form behind the button is formatted incorrectly, which is why she had to use IE Mode.
So far, the problem has been solved successfully.

My personal guess is that the IE mode size is incorrect. It may have something to do with older versions of Windows 10, such as 1803/1809,
not updating these optional features after a system upgrade. My guess may be incorrect. Please let me know if you have a correct answer.
