AAS: How can I optimize the memory usage of an Azure Analysis Services instance?

Hi All,

My question has been explained in a nice way in this stack post: 71918935. I am just posting here to increase exposure to the right audience, encase some may not view the post if its on a different site.

In summary, we are trying to reduce the memory usage of our process so that we can remain in our current AAS tier (not running into frequent Our of Memory Alerts and having to worry about upgrading) and also make use of our resources in a better way, allowing us to extend the data retention/ size of our model.

Would appreciate if any experts could provide thoughts and guidance on how to resolve/ go about resolving this issue.

Thanks for the question and using MS Q&A platform.

As we understand the ask here is know how to reduce the memory usages in AAS , please do let us know if its not accurate.
I agree to all the points which are called out in the post . But I think we should first put an effort to find out which table(s) are the one which is contributing to this . The easist way could be try to process the tables individually and keep an eye as to how the memory consumptions behaves(you can out this https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/516832/how-to-manually-refresh-azure-analysis-services-ta.html ) . Once you have the subset of the tables , you can work try out the things called out in the post .

Also it may happens that some of the measures which are derieved from the base table are very compute intensive . One avenue to explore can be to perform those calculation outside AAS by using SQL ( if possible ) , Synapse or Databricks . These services are not free and hence will need some exploration .
