Credentials Error in PowerQuery Activity

Hello,

I am testing Azure Data Factory and I would like to test the following setup:
1) Azure Data Lake Storage Gen 2 to store some CSV files;
2) PowerQuery Activity to manipulate the CSV files.
The problem I encounter appears to be related with authentication issues inside PowerQuery "We could not evaluate this query due to invalid or missing credentials.".

These are the steps I follow:

1) create Storage account. Only extra option is the activation of the hierarchical namespace. Then I create the container and upload my CSV.
N.B. I made here no modifications to roles etc., because until now I just followed the basic guidelines trying to avoid over complicating things.

2) in Data Factory, create Linked Service and test connection.

3) create Data Set and preview.

4) create PowerQuery Activity based on Data Set. The errors appears in the query preview.

I attach all the screenshots here:

Thank you for the help!
Best regards
Matteo

Hello @MatteoFacchini-4629,

Welcome to the MS Q&A platform.

Normally this could be transient network issue . Could you please retry and see if the error persists?

As per the repro, I'm able to open and read the files from Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 without any issue:

In case, if the error persists, remove and re-added the Power Query and see if that works.

Hope this will help. Please let us know if any further queries.

Hello @PRADEEPCHEEKATLA-MSFT , sorry for the late response! Unfortunately it still does not work for me... Does the storage account require special permissions?

Thank you for the help!
Kind regards
Matteo

Hello @MatteoFacchini-4629,

As you are connecting Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 using Account Key, it doesn't need any special permissions.

Have you tired this - In case, if the error persists, remove and re-added the Power Query and see if that works.

Hello @PRADEEPCHEEKATLA-MSFT , yes I am using Account Key ( I also tried the Managed Identity). In addition I also tried to recreate the data set and the power query but nothing changed.

I will ask a colleague of mine to reproduce the steps on her account, then I will update you with her results. Hopefully I am only missing something :-)

Hello @PRADEEPCHEEKATLA-MSFT,

I have reproduced the bug in a new test account, set up new Data Factory and within created a new dataset using the Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2.
The creation of the dataset itself was successful, however if I try to select this dataset within a new Power Query, it gives me the same bug as documented above.
Is it possible that this error is related to our test accounts?

Hello @MatteoFacchini-4629,

Are you able to solve the issue or still facing the same issue?

Hi @PRADEEPCHEEKATLA-MSFT , sorry for the late response. I and my colleague @AnnaSophieDischer-0886 made independent attempts with different accounts but we both have the same issue.

Could it be related to the fact that we are using test accounts?

Thank you for your help!

Best
Matteo
