E5 vs Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise and AIP Built-in Labels

Hi,

According to this URL, "Built-in labels require a subscription edition of Office apps. If you have standalone editions of Office, sometimes called "Office Perpetual", we recommend you upgrade to Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise to benefit from the latest labeling capabilities." https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/compliance/sensitivity-labels-aip?view=o365-worldwide...

Now, I just spoke to a MS Sales rep online who told me that even though we have the E5 license, we will also need to purchase the 'Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise' in order to use the AIP built-in labels.

Surely that is not the case? Could someone please clarify this?

Thank you

Hi @ShimKwan-8714,

Thanks for your post!

Built-in labeling is part of the Azure Information Protection add-in for Microsoft 365 for Enterprise apps, and updates are pushed as part of Microsoft 365 apps releases, as noted in this article. I spoke with someone on the AIP team about the requirements and he also verified what the sales rep said. You do need Microsoft 365 for Enterprise Apps to use this feature.

Let me know if this helps answer the question. I'm happy to share any feedback you have around the licensing requirements, though, and apologize for any lack of clarity.
