SharePoint List - conditional mandatory field& permission

Hi All,

I would like to learn how to make field ''resolution'' mandatory if ''status'' is complete.
I already have set up in the validation setting that the resolution field only appears if the status is complete, but I would like it to be mandatory.

Secondly, Is it possible to restrict users from modifying certain columns?
I have the following statutes -

Not started
Complete
On-Track
Off-Track
Roadblock
Owner action required
Pending requestor approval

I would like either users not allowed to modify the entire ''status'' column or the last two statuses (owner action required, pending requestor approval) will not be available in the drop-down selection but it gets changed to through power automate workflow.

thank you very much!

for making field mandatory based on condition you may try to use field validation settings: Conditionally require column based on value of another.

For second question: in OTB solution it is not possible to restrict user access to particular fields (smaller element which may have unique permissions assigned is list item). You may create custom form for submitting items to the list (e.g. using SPFx web part) and implement these advanced rules there. But it will require programming.

Hi @Min-0640,

Like sadomovalex said, there is no available ootb way to restrict users from modifying certain columns. But you could try to use PowerApps to customize list forms as a workaround.

For Reference:
How to provide different user permissions to columns in powerapps
How to limit user to submit only 1 single entry, which means create 1 and can modified the created item multiple time
