Hello Thomas, on Linux client you need to start a call firstly. Then the button to share screen will be visible from the call.
Very slow screen sharing happened on some Linux machines, and on others it was fast.
It was horribly slow on a particular Intel GPU. Memory and CPU were OK, it was like the GPU was too busy to update the screen for my view.
Using Teams as a web page inside Microsoft Edge works much better. Also there it is possible to share just one single window.
Screen sharing works fine for me in Teams on KDE Plasma version 5.8.9 with proprietary nVidia drivers v460
Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS (kernel 5.8.0-44-generic, Wayland is disabled), Microsoft Teams Version 1.4.00.4855,
I had the same problem until I uninstalled the proprietary Nvidia driver. I am currently using the open-source "xserver-xorg-video-nouveau". No more issues with screen sharing.
Teams screen sharing not working on Fedora 33 on Wayland, switching to X11 solved the problem.
Hi,
Mine works or not I should say, the screen sharing button is available to use when logging in to a teams meeting although when pressing the button and tries to screenshare is only black under neat, no options to screenshare anything such as your screen or individual apps etc. Works in the WEB gui though.
Any thoughts?
Just tried it during a call and screensharing works on for me on Linux Mint 19.2 if you initiate it after you start the call. Thank goodness!
The confusing part is the button to initiate a call with screensharing is not there on LInux but is on the Windows version.
Thanks Rudolf. That worked for me. Surprised the button wasn't there, but screen sharing was working after initiating a call.
Hi Thomas,
As far as I know, no screen share from chat is a limitation. I recommend you continuously pay attention to the follow-up release.
Hi SharonZhao. Thanks for your reply.
Strangely enough, it works on my friends PC with KDE Plasma... maybe there is a workaround to enable it?
It's a bit of a shame, that Microsoft (as the official vendor of this solution) is not able to implement, what the opensource community does:
https://github.com/IsmaelMartinez/teams-for-linux
I'm using teams-for-linux until MS manages to implement that then...
Hi Thomas,
It is really strange. I only have Ubuntu 19.10 with Gnome. So, my result is same to you. Perhaps, you can try the methods mentioned by RudoIfTomori. The screen sharing feature works when I was in a Teams meeting or a call.
It looks like Teams uses Skype under the hood, I have never been able to get screen sharing to work in Skype during an active call, should this be working in Teams though? particularly on KDE Plasma version 5.8.9?
