PXE boot > CM looking for policy > TFTP download > not sure what to do, no error

Hi,
I have all requirements configured to deploy OS via PXE. We do have IP Helper entry pointing to the DP/PXE server.
Task Sequence is deployed to All Unknown Computers > Available to Only Media and PXE

Now I am stuck on this screen. TFTP keeps on downloading. Looking at the smspxe.log, the request is received by the DP/PXE. When I searched Google I've got different answers, one suggesting the bootimage needs drivers? Greatly appreciate any help/suggestion.

Hi,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft MECM Q&A forum.

After the DHCP conversation completes, the client will start the TFTP session to download the WDS network boot program (NBP) file. When the NBP has been transferred to the client computer, it will be executed. The NBP dictates whether the client can boot from the network, whether the client must press F12 to initiate the boot (pxeboot.com) and which boot image the client will receive. Please help check below settings:

1,Please help confirm that the REMINST share is created and WDS is configured. Refer to: Understand PXE boot in Configuration Manager
RemoteInstall\SMSBoot\x64

2,Please make sure that you have distributed the boot images to PXE-enabled DP. Right-click the boot image and select Properties > Data Source, and then select Deploy this boot image from the PXE-enabled distribution point.

3,You can customize the RamDisk TFTP block and window sizes for PXE-enabled distribution points. If you've customized your network, a large block or window size could cause the boot image download to fail with a time-out error. Please try to remove the TFTP windows size and block size registry values on the PXE-enabled DP (if there are any).

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\DP\RamDiskTFTPWindowSize(RamDiskTFTPBlockSize)

Refer to: RamDisk TFTP block size and window size

Hope it helps. Thanks for your time.

Best regards,
Simon

Thank you for your support. I figured out my PXE issue. For some reason, when I first distributed the boot image, it did not complete distributing the contents of the x64 folder. The only file in that folder was abortpxe.

I just deleted the boot image from the DP and distributed content again. I now have the complete folder. As a result, my PXE process works. I get the "Press F12 to boot".

The issue I have right now is "Failed to run task sequence", but I will try to research that first before I post for help.

Thank you again!

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback. For the task sequence troubleshooting, it's firstly recommended to examine the smsts.log on the target system. You can refer to:
SCCM: How to copy SMSTS.log when a Task Sequence fails

If you need any further assistance in future, we warmly welcome you to post in Microsoft Q&A forum again.

Thanks for your time. Have a nice day!

Best Regards,
Simon

Is the boot image copied on the DP with pxe enabled?
