How does PreStage Content Works on DP

Hi, I just need some information regrading Pre-stage content DP.

  1. Install new DP with Pre-Stage option tick

  2. Pre-stage all packages (Application, Package, Software Package)

  3. Assign All Distribution group which these packages are push to, new DP

  4. Copy All Prestage Content to new DP

  5. Run following command to extract package to new DP "ExtractContent.exe /f /P:X:\Prestage\Content\xxxxx.pkgx"

  6. Wait for site server to confirm/validate content

  7. Once all prestage content show as successful then remove pre-stage tick from new DP

Is they anything I miss from above steps?

@lalajee
Thanks for your posting on Q&A.

As far as I know, the all steps are correct. I haven't any other tips. But the following links may be helpful before doing any actions.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/core/servers/deploy/configure/deploy-and-manage-content#bkmk_prestage

In addition, here is step-by-step guide for your reference. It is not from MS, just for your reference.

According to my lab test, we have to install the Windows Feature - Remote Differential Compression on the remote DP, or there will be something wrong. Note that add the feature on the remote DP if you haven't enabled before.

Hope the above will be helpful. Please keep us in touch if there are any questions or updates of the case.

Have a great day.

Regards,
Rita

If I miss following step
Assign All Distribution group which these packages are push to, new DP

Then in sccm under \Monitoring\Overview\Distribution Status\Distribution Point Configuration Status for new DP i should see no success, in Progress or failed packages right as nothing is distributed to this new DP even i run the prestage command

@lalajee
I followed the Official Document and there are did three steps we have to follow one by one.
Step 1: Create a prestaged content file
Step 2: Assign the content to distribution points
Step 3: Extract the content from the prestaged content file

I tested it in my lab and it seems that we have to enabled the Windows Feature - Remote Differential Compression on the remote DP before, or there will be something wrong. Here is the screenshot for your reference in my lab:

Is there any error information when you tried to extract the content?

Best regards,
Rita

Sounds about right. You can do without the option of requiring pre-stage for content in DP properties. I don't think I have ever used it when pre-staging the content. The status should sync back.
