MECM - IBCM configuration question

We have IBCM setup and configured, and it's been running successfully for a couple of years now. However, it was all installed on our Primary site server. Now, we'd like to remove the DP role on this server. So my question:

1) Can IBCM use a DP that is NOT on the same box as the MP it is connecting to?

2) If not, has anyone gone through the process for moving IBCM from one site server to a new, dedicated one?

Hi, @JoeHeaton-5870

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

As far as I know, when we configure IBCM, we always install the primary site in work network with the internal DP and MP, then install a site server in the DMZ with DP and MP to respond to internet clients' requests.
So, when you say "it was all installed on our Primary site server", it's not very clear to me, would you have a more detailed description about your IBCM configuration?

In my MECM topology, I have several physical sites, spread throughout the state. In my main, headquarters physical site, I have my Primary site server, and 2 other DPs. I only have the single Primary site server, and all other servers are DPs only. IBCM was installed on this Primary site server. What you describe, with a separate MP/DP server, is NOT what we did. I am being asked to remove the DP role from that Primary site server, so my colleague can run scripts to clean up our content. So:

1) Can I point IBCM to one of the other DPs in this same physical site, so I can remove the DP from the Primary site server, or

2) How difficult is it to move IBCM off of the Primary site server, into the more standard configuration of a MP/DP server, by itself?

Hi, @JoeHeaton-5870

According to your description, I think you can point IBCM to one of the other DPs in this same physical site and remove the DP from the Primary site server without any issue.

Allen, thank you, that's the answer I was hoping for. Do you have any kind of documented process to do this?

Sorry, I didn't have a chance to test this scenario.
