about 6 weeks ago we installed "Windows Server 2019 Essentials" from the following link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-GB/evalcenter/evaluate-windows-server-2019-essentials. the description on that link states "server solution for small businesses with up to 25 users and 50 devices" and the prerequisites advise "Register, and then download and install full-featured software for a 180-day trial" (which is what we did).
my understanding was that one of the main differences between "Windows Server 2019 Essentials" and "Windows Server 2019" itself is that "Windows Server 2019 Essentials" effectively includes 25 CAL licences, pre-available i.e. you do not purchase additional CALs. however when testing we have found that only 2 users can REMOTE DESKTOP into the server at a time: if a third session is requested, a warning message is issued and eventually one of the two users already signed in sees a "you have been disconnected" message.
after research online i am confused why this is, and what steps i need to take to resolve: is it perhaps -
(a) because "Windows Server 2019 Essentials" simply will not let more than 2 users remote desktop in at a time i.e. the operating system itself just will not allow it?
(b) because we have to purchase additional RDS CALs i.e. there are NOT 25 included automatically?
(c) because we are still within the 180-day trial i.e. once we actually purchase the operating system, this issue will go away?
thanks
