When converting between Premium SSD, Standard SSD and Standard HDD managed disks how long does it take for the operation to complete? Does the size of the disk play any part in reducing or lengthening the conversion process? For example would the conversion of a 1TB Premium SSD to Standard HDD take considerably longer than a similar conversion of a 40gb disk?
If they are already managed disks then the conversion from an administrative point of view is usually only takes a few seconds. You can start up your virtual machine as soon as the change of storage type is saved. In the background your data will be live migrated to the new storage type but this process all happens without any disruption to you and you will not be notified when it completes. To answer your question, yes it would take longer for larger disks to convert but this will happen in the background even if your VM is running again.
