Windows Update KB5011487 -> Delay printing ( 5 minutes to print )

Guys,

I am using Windows 10, version 1903 and later. When Windows update installed in my system last moment. I started notice this issue when I print from Visual Basic Apps.

I have a program made in Visual Basic . and I use Crystal reports 11 ( .rpt files ) .

The issue only affects me when I try to print using Crystal reports( .rpt files ) .

On the other hand, when I print word documents goes OK.

Thanks

Hello @ServicioTcnicoGranCanaria-2016

We have to look into the VB code for detailed analysis. But based in you comment, please confirm whether the developer has assigned the entire printer settings property of the report document. Usually this is where the delay occurs.

Also please try following steps

  1. Reduce the size of the rpt file

  2. Remove unnesessarry data fields

  3. Try compressing the file and configure for virus scanning

LimitlessTechnology-2700, Thanks for the reply

We have done all you said, we created a new and reduced .rpt & remove data fields , but still not working.

Our software its been running for years and there is no issues. this issue start happening this year after the windows update. Moreover, if I uninstall the windows update, works perfectly fine.

One solution is to stop Windows Update temporarily

We are still finding a solution, because we have a lot of inicidents daily.

Thanks and We appriciate your time !!!

We have this same issue. We have an application that we have used for years, and it generates PDF files with Crystal Runtime. Since this KB5011487 update, it takes about 5 minutes for the application to create the output PDF file. Removing the patch immediately clears the issue. Updating the client machine to a newer version of Crystal runtime does not resolve the problem. We have had to halt this patch for all of our users, which is not a good solution. Any other suggestions or anyone else out there having this same problem?

Guys ,

we have fixed the issue by checking in Crystal Reports -> \ File\ Page Setting \

-> Printers Options as in the image. ( in spanish, sorry ) . Afer this, the printing speed increase a lot.

Thanks for the feedback and I hope everyone find a solution to this printing issue.

Thanks

All,

I believe that we have found the cause of this issue. For us, this occurs when the source Crystal Report has a printer defined that no longer exists. With this windows update, for some reason the report takes minutes to time out on that printer and then go to the proper destination (in our case PDF using Crystal Runtime). To fix this issue, we opened the source Crystal report, we get the usual "Invalid Printer" popup which we for years have wrongly ignored, and then we reset the default printer on the report to a known working network printer. Re-save the report, and then run it from whatever app is using it (in our case a legacy app), and the delay goes away.

I hope this helps.
Jeff
