Best practice to migrate Hyper-V VDI machines

Hello,

We are planning to migrate about 100 VM VDI on distributed on 8 standalone Hyper-V Server to new clustered hardware hyper-v server

Please what's the best practice to move vms using live migration or there's another method

and steps to VDI migrations.

Through the Server Manager instance that you use to manage your broker, add the new hosts. First, as servers in Server Manager, then as Virtualization Hosts in the RDS section.
Then, move the virtual machines with Shared Nothing Live Migration or export/import.

Thanks Eric

Does Remote Desktop Connection Broker should be installed on each node in the cluster or in a single VM in the cluster

Thanks and waiting for your reply

You should have one or two brokers across your deployment. Do not install the broker role on a virtualization node.

Hello, Please can you tell me how you can get the migrated VMs to the collection on the target Host/cluster after the Import/Export or Replication. I am working on Windows 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Services collection and trying to migrate from source cluster to target cluster. Is there a way to import the Desktops/VMs into Collection?

Hi,

  1. If the network bandwidth is sufficient, we may use live migration to move the 100 VM to different standalone hyper V servers.

  2. Another choice is exporting the VM to a removable drive and import to the target Hyper V host.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/virtualization/hyper-v/deploy/export-and-import-virtual-machines

Thanks for your time!
Best Regards,
Anne
