I am pretty sure this should be the easiest and most vital bug for the development team to fix! The "Bold" check box in Options -> Environment -> Fonts and Colors does NOT work! It is ineffective. Why can't we bold text anymore?

Maybe at least let us know about a work around?
Have you tried it with different fonts? Is your Visual Studio up to date? What version of Visual Studio do you have?
This is my second account, I cannot access the first one for some reason. But I use Visual Studio 2022 (Up to Date). Like I said this problem is happening since before VS 2017. It does not work with any font.

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.
You may need to select the corresponding Display items and set it/them to Bold.
I tested on my side to check Bold option in Display items for Plain Text, as you can see, the following screenshot, the Plain Text in a normal .txt file displays correctly(note: this Plain Text item only works for Plain Text, not C#, VB… codes).

Hello, thanks for your reply. But it is not plain text that I am trying to bold and I do know that we have to select a specific display item (s). I am trying to bold C++ Macro or C++ Local Variables, etc. using the same steps as you, and it does not make a difference for me. It does not bold.

I have similar problem too.
I can set bold in general items such as "comments" or"line numbers", but can't in items related to C++ syntax highlighting such as "C++ Functions".
Text color can be changed for any item, but only bolding is impossible .
After updating VisualStudio to the latest version 17.3.0, this problem no longer occurs. (Windows 10 64bit Visual Studio Community)
