If you need the auth code for work (like I do) you should be able to call you IT person and they can reset your profile (you wont lose anything) and they can force the 6 digit code for you. Then you can log in from your laptop and then your cell phone. I just moved from a Note8 to an Iphone 13 and was in a bit of a panic over this. He resolved my issue in under 5 minutes. Now when I log into my authenticator app, it shows me both options, an 8 digit code and a 6 digit code. I hope this helps!
