Tablet PCs, Healthcare Integration, Portals and More

I'm just back from visiting with more than a hundred customers who attended our Healthcare Executive Forum events in Philadelphia and New York City. Our New York event was held in the famous Rainbow Room in Rockefeller Center. I even had a chance to say hello to NBC News anchor John Siegenthaler. John and I worked together when he was based in Seattle and I was doing health reports for KOMO-TV.

I was extremely pleased to see more and more clinicians attending our forums this year. About half of the audience in both cities came from outside of IT. They are doctors, nurses and c-level healthcare administrators who want to learn how they can improve patient safety, quality, work-flow efficiencies, and satisfaction with Microsoft and partner solutions.

We are very pleased to have the support of three great partners on this year's road show. Quilogy has been doing some outstanding work for our customers around healthcare integration, portals, collaboration and business intelligence. Motion Computing is generating lots of interest with their newest generation of slate Tablet PCs. I'm a real fan of the LE-1600 and LE-1400 models. The LS-800 is also capturing lots of attention from people seeking a slightly smaller form factor. If you didn't catch my comments about the Tablet PC in healthcare on MSDN's Channel 9 with Robert Scoble, click here: The Tablet PC may not be right for everyone who works in healthcare, but for those seeking a highly mobile, powerful and intuitive device for capturing patient data and providing information at the point of care, the Tablet is king. If you haven't had a chance to pick one up and take it for a test drive, be sure you do before buying anything else for your practice.

Healthcare Executive Forum attendees also learned about Microsoft Dynamics ERP and financial system solutions for healthcare providers. Microsoft Dynamics working with partner, ePartner Solutions, is able to provide up to 95% of the functionality of competing healthcare ERP and financial system solutions at approximately half the cost.

Next week we are off to Minneapolis for a Healthcare Executive Forum event on December 1st at the Grand Hotel . I hope to see some of you there.
