New Azure FastTrack VM image for SQL Server 2014 CTP2 (FTDW)

Hi all,

I already covered in details, only five days ago, what is inside “Fast Track” VM available in the Azure Image Gallery in my previous blog post:

Deep-dive on New Azure FastTrack VM image (FTDW)

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/igorpag/archive/2013/10/11/deep-dive-on-new-azure-fasttrack-vm-image-ftdw.aspx

In that post, I described the SQL Server 2012 version, but since this morning a new VM with SQL Server 2014 CTP2 has been published, it’s already time to write a second, but very short, post on this specific content.

It is worth noting the following differences, compared to what I already described in my previous article:

  • The SQL Server version used is SQL Server 2014 CTP2 (x64) and will expire on June 4th 2014;
  • This VM configuration is rated for data warehousing database size until 1 TERABYTE;
  • The recommended VM size is now A7 (8 CORES, 56GB RAM) instead of the previous A6 for SQL Server 2012;
  • The number of additional data disks to use is 9, compared to 5 for the SQL Server 2012 version, as reminded in the table below:

A final note on why CTP2 is important: this is a feature complete CTP, that is with all the features that will be available in the final public version of SQL Server 2014, expected to be released early next year.

Regards.
