Raptor Ridge Pinot Gris and Plumbing
I just polished off a bottle of Raptor Ridge 2003 Yamhill Counte Pinot Gris. Yum. Nice fruits, a little sweet, a little tart. Just the thing to finish up a long day of plumbing.
Ah yes. The plumbing. I've decided that plumbing is not my strong suit. So we're getting a new washer and dryer -- some ridiculously expensive, very overengineered Maytag thing. Very exciting. So I built a platform for the washer and dryer to sit on, thinking to myself, "Self, I can build that platform better and more cheaply than buying one." I was right about that -- finished it up last night and sprayed it gray.
But it seems that some of the pipes where the washer hooked up were leaking. First there was the cold water faucet. So I took it apart and replaced all the washers. No problem. Worked great. But I noticed that there was a drip from one of the joints in the hot water pipes at a junction between the copper and the PVC that I'd installed. The only way to fix it was to cut out a chunk of the PVC and redo it. I had the parts, so I gave it a try. Same leak. Now I needed parts. Off to Home Depot. Back an hour later (don't go to Home Depot a noon on a Sunday). Take 2. Fixed the old leak. Created a new one. Take three.
Come to find out that I shouldn't be using PVC. I should be using CPVC (for drinking water). $20 of new CPVC pipe and fittings, another hour. Fixed. Done.
Of course, now I have to replace the PVC on the cold water line. Next weekend. It took me four hours to fix a simple leak. Plumbing always takes me three tries.
