How I chose my new Pocket PC...

I treated myself this year at Christmas, well some days after Christmas since the stores over here did not get it before Christmas, on my first Pocket PC ever. I had done a lot of research on which and what kind of mobile phone I should pick. I came to the conclusion that I did not wanted a SmartPhone anymore, I had that in the past, but now I wanted a PDA Phone (Pocket PC).

While doing research I found out that I really needed to write down my "must haves" versus "nice to haves". There are so many PDA Phones to choose from and I can really recommend everyone doing this before picking your new mobile phone.

My must haves for my PDA phone:

  • Design, thin and easy to handle
  • Windows Mobile 5.0
  • Upgradable via ROM flash
  • Good and clear screen
  • (Sliding) keyboard *
  • Wi-Fi (802.11b/g)
  • Battery
  • GPS
  • GSM + Unlocked + Cingular

Nice to haves for my PDA Phone:

  • Camera
  • Bluetooth
  • FM Radio
  • Infrared

After I wrote these down I started to look again at PDA phones. I ended up comparing three PDA phones (it were more than 3 but anways..). HP iPAQ hw69XX, HTC P4350 and the E-ten M700.

After comparing specs and reading tons of reviews I went for the E-ten M700. This device had all the things I needed + more. E-ten is a fairly unknown player of mobile phones in the States and even when I was still in The Netherlands I did not hear of them. They are actually a big company over in Taiwan. Oh I bought the device over at, they had a great price and excellent service and I can really recommend these guys.

In my next posting titled "E-ten M700 review - My first attempt to write a review" I will try to write down what I think about the device and how good or bad it is. I will receive my simcard on Tuesday!!
