How to activate Azure benefit for MSDN subscribers

Did you know that all MSDN subscribers can receive monthly credits for Azure services?

Subscribers can activate their Azure MSDN benefit at no additional charge and use their MSDN software in the cloud. The way you to use those monthly Azure credits is up to the user, these credits can be used on any Azure service including Virtual Machines, Websites, Cloud Services, Mobile Services, Storage, SQL Database, Content Delivery Network, HDInsight, Media Services, and many more. 

Here are some examples of ways you can use some of that monthly credit included in the Premium or Platforms subscriptions.


  • Up to 100 websites + DB
  • 3 VMs for 16 hours a day
  • 80 VMs for 20 hour load test
  • 50 HDInsight nodes for 10 hrs


Now, how to activate this benefit ? Very straightforward and i will explain the process in the following steps.

  1. First, go to your MSDN subscription page:


  2. From there click on My Account. You will be required to sign in for this step using your email.

  3. On that page, My Account, you will be able to see a list of benefits titled "SUBSCRIPTION BENEFITS"

  4. In that list, there is "Microsoft Azure". Click on the Activate Microsoft Azure link as per the following screenshot:


  5. You will be prompted to enter the credentials for your Microsoft Account (email)

  6. From there, you will be redirected to a Sing Up page. Fill the  "About You"  section, make sure you that the information you enter there is correct.  

  7. Next, you will need to fill the  "Mobile verification"  section:

    1. Enter your mobile number, and click the  "Send text Message"  button

    2. You should receive a verification code via text on your mobile phone.

    3. Enter the verification code that was sent in a text message to you into the form and click the "Verify code" button


  8. Finally, tick the check-boxes in the 3rd section "Agreement" and hit the Sign up button.

  9. From there, you will be redirected to the Microsoft Azure Subscriptions page. You should see your Visual Studio with MSDN subscription listed there. If it was still show as "Pending" , give it a few minutes, it will become active. 

  10. On that page, after the account shows as Active.You can click on the  "Portal"  link (or just go to or to get to the Microsoft Azure Management Portal and start deploying applications in the cloud and configure your various Azure services.
