OSIsoft’s Wins Microsoft Sustainability Award
Congratulations to our friends at OSIsoft for their unique achievement, winning the first-ever Microsoft Sustainability Partner of the Year Award for the OSIsoft PI system, built on the Microsoft platform. The award was given out from nearly 3,000 partner entries submitted this year for the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) 2011 Awards program. OSIsoft came out on top, no doubt due in part to their relevance and importance to the utility industry. In fact, OSIsoft provided the judges with several case studies from the utility industry, including examples from its work with the Mexican electric utility CFE, NiSource Gas and Metro Vancouver, a water utility. Bernard Morneau, president of OSIsoft, accepted the award from Steve Ballmer. You can hear Susan Hauser our VP of Worldwide Industries talk about OSIsoft’s award in the attached video.
Indeed, many of our worldwide utility customers are very familiar with the PI System, using it to deliver on the promise of the Smart Grid for Sustainability. The PI System provides utilities with the ability to gain true real-time operational insight into their businesses through the use of an easily scalable information infrastructure. The PI System provides a unique approach to data visibility, and gives their utility clients the added features that come with the embedded adoption of Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft SharePoint. The PI System is the backbone of Microsoft’s Smart Energy Reference Architecture (SERA) because it is the only way to measure all of the millions of data points from generation to transmission to smart meters.
OSIsoft presented the judges with their implementation of a solution for Metro Vancouver, helping it to manage the municipality’s water quality and system safety for 2.2 million customers. The PI System was used to gather data from disparate systems throughout the organization allowing for quick and easy historical and predictive analysis leading to faster response rates to fix problems. Using SharePoint, Vancouver Metro has been able to put the right information in front of the decision makers.
The judges also were impressed with OSIsoft’s work for CFE, the national utility company for Mexico. CFE uses the PI System 2010 and its integration with the Microsoft Business Intelligence Stack to provide reliability to their electric grid. CFE has said that OSIsoft and Microsoft are its “two most strategic vendors…[providing CFE with the ability] to improve its business processes and decisions through the use of real-time data and events from the PI System.”
Another customer study that OSIsoft provided to the judges was their work for NiSource Gas. Using the PI System, NiSource has been able to assess their critical locations, assets, capacity constraints, and system capability for visualization and strategy execution, extending their life of their company’s assets.
We are happy to see OSIsoft receive this notable award. They set a good example of what sustainability should mean for a software company, and it’s been a great pleasure helping them build their solutions on the Microsoft platform. We are confident that our technologies offer the most comprehensive set of solutions for the multi-faceted needs of sustainability offerings and OSIsoft is one vendor who really demonstrates that every day for our mutual utility clients. – Jon C.
