Lync 2010 Self-Study Guide

I have received numerous requests for a self-study guide focused on Lync, so in this post I've decided to turn to that technology (and since preview information on Lync 2013 is also coming out, I'll include a bit of that at the end as well).  Before I get started, however, I've provided a brief definition of what Lync is for those of you who aren't familiar with the technology.  The definition below is taken from this site:


Microsoft® Lync® is an enterprise-ready unified communications platform. With Lync, users can keep track of their contacts’ availability; send an IM; start or join an audio, video, or web conference; or make a phone call—all through a consistent, familiar interface. Lync is built to fully integrate with Microsoft Office. The Microsoft Lync 2010 desktop client is available for Windows and for Mac and mobile versions are available for Windows Phone, iPhone/iPad, and Android devices.


Please note also that I have deliberately avoided including Lync Online content so that this can be dedicated to customers seeking to deploy and maintain their own Lync 2010 environment.  Future posts will deal with Lync Online and Microsoft's other hosted services.  Also, some of the links below refer to OCS 14 instead of Lync.  This is because OCS 14 was the name previously given to Lync.
