How long have you been an MVP?

What’s the best technical tip you have today for implementing a cloud deployment?
Plan, plan, plan! All phases of a migration to the cloud builds off of each other so building a solid
approach to the migration is critical to the success of the project. From a technical perspective the
best way to approach a cloud implementation from an Exchange perspective is to understand a
cross forest migration and understand a migration to the cloud is virtually identical, the limitations
are the same. This is key, especially when configuring hybrid mode between on-prem and cloud
solutions. Exchange 2010 SP2 provides an excellent hybrid configuration wizard, but without
understanding the concepts behind what the wizard is doing an engineer won’t be able to
effectively troubleshoot the problem if things don’t go as planned.

When considering using the Cloud, what do you tell people if they aren’t sure about
to the Cloud?
It gives you all the benefit of having the systems in house, with additional benefits of ultra-high
availability with no hardware/software to maintain. That in addition to software assurance gives
you the best Microsoft has to offer without having to worry about upgrading every time a new
version comes out.

Speaking from your experience, what words of advice do you have for new MVPs?
I am new so it is hard to say but continuing to participate and getting to know other MVPs is
critical to success in the MVP world. The wealth of resources and knowledge goes up by an
exponential factor as soon as you become an MVP so be sure to utilize the resource and get
everything you can out of it!
