How The Rock Paper Azure Fall 2011 Sweepstakes Winners Will Be Chosen

Friday is here!  And, at the time I’m writing this, you still have just under 5 hours left to take the Rock Paper Azure Challenge for a chance to win a $5,000 trip to Cancun, Mexico!  In the interest of transparency and disclosure, my teammate Jim O’Neil just posted how we will be drawing the winners this evening at 6pm. 

Just a reminder: This is a SWEEPSTAKES. Every bot entry has an equal chance of winning!   As of 1pm EST, your chances of winning the big prize are 1 in 155.  If you haven’t had a chance to get your entry in yet, it takes about 15 minutes, and you have until 6 p.m. ET today, December 16th, 2011. 

Besides the $5,000 trip to Cancun, there are three other prizes at stake:

  • Acer Aspire S3 Laptop
  • Windows Phone
  • XBox 360/Kinect bundle

How will the winners be drawn?

At 6 p.m. ET sharp today, the Fall Sweepstakes round at RockPaperAzure.com will be closed, and the leaderboard will be frozen. As we’ve done for the last three weeks, the top five on the leaderboard will each win a $50 Best Buy Gift Card.

At that point, we will use Random Sequence Generator with a range from 1 to the number of entries on the Fall Sweepstakes leaderboard.  The values generated will be used to identify the winners of the four prizes in order (i.e., the first random number chosen will identify the winner of the $5000 grand prize, the second number drawn will identify the winner of the laptop, and so on).

If, for any reason, any of the four winners should be deemed ineligible for the contest, he or she will forfeit the prize, and the entry corresponding to the next number on the randomized list will claim that prize. The list of generated randomized numbers, along with the prize winners, will be posted on the RockPaperAzure web site shortly after the drawing.
